This collection contains the notes and resources used by Judith Endelman in the writing of her book, "The Jewish Community of Indianapolis: 1849 to the Present." Series 1 documents the author's preparation and research for the book, with correspondence, notes from interviews, newspaper clippings, research notes and, magazine articles. Series 2 contains drafts and notes of other writings by Judith Endelman. Series 3 contains Endelman's research note cards. Series 4 contains copies of photographs that were used in the book and those that were considered and rejected. The date's of the photographs range from 1875 to 1989.

Judith Endelman graduated from the University of California Los Angeles in 1969. She has advanced degrees in library science from Simmons College and American studies at Boston College. She has held several positions in libraries and archives in Massachusetts, New York, and Indiana. She is currently the director of the Benson Ford Research Center in Michigan.
